What kind of flower shop is Petal & Stem?

A small, family-run shop in Portland. Everything is arranged by hand at the bench, a few bouquets at a time, by the same people who answer the phone and load the van. Nothing comes out of a box ready-made.

What goes into an everyday bouquet?

Whatever is at its best that morning, built around a colour rather than a formula. A loose, garden-gathered shape with plenty of foliage — flowers that look like they were picked, not engineered.

How do you approach wedding flowers?

We start with the room, the season and the dress, then work outwards to the bouquets, the buttonholes and the table. Couples see a sample arrangement before anything is finalised, so there are no surprises on the morning.

How does same-day delivery work?

Orders placed earlier in the day are arranged and driven out across Portland that same day. We deliver the bouquets ourselves, so if a doorstep is tricky or a recipient is out, we can sort it on the spot.

Do the flowers change through the year?

Constantly, and we like that. Ranunculus and tulips give way to garden roses, then dahlias, then branches and berried foliage. If you ask for something out of season we will tell you honestly and offer what is beautiful instead.

What if I do not know what to ask for?

Tell us the occasion, a colour you love and roughly what you would like to spend. That is genuinely enough. We would rather have a short conversation than hand you a catalogue to choose from.
